TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu said for every 70 families one belt shop was established illegally, totaling 3 lakh outlets in the state.
He said among male community, 32 per cent of them addicted to liquor consumption with the increase of belt shops in villages. The astonishing fact was liquor consumption per day is 39 lakh liters (cost at Rs 80 crore) where as milk consumption is 30.56 lakh liters costing Rs 9 crore per day in the state, he added.
Stating that the implementation of total prohibition is impossible in the present circumstances, he said demanded government to include banning of belt shops in the new excise policy 2013-14 to be brought into force form July this year. The TDP leader also demanded to control unbridled liquor sales and bring down liquor consumption which has become a big social menace in state.
